Course Description

The Advanced Yoga Teachers' Training Course allows graduates from the Sivananda Yoga Teachers' Training Course to deepen their spiritual practice and their study of Hatha yoga, Vedanta philosophy, Raja Yoga, anatomy and Sanskrit.

ATTC is designed as a way for Yoga teachers to deepen your understanding of basic Yogic principles and strengthen in your Sadhana, spiritual practices. During this month-long intensive the student experiences the purifying and transformative power of an intermediate level Yoga practice. This unique and informative training course will help you dive deeper into the path of meditation focusing on the more subtle aspects of Yoga. The course is taught by senior disciples of Swami Vishnudevananda and is considered to be the next step after the 200-hour Yoga Teachers' Training Course.


Course Curriculum

Yoga Asanas:  Progress in your yoga asana practice (advanced variations and prolonged holding of the postures), and increase your concentration.

Pranayama:  One hour of practice each morning including advanced pranayama, mudras and bandhas.

Vedanta:  Study of the different philosophical schools of India, Vedantic theory and practice, and Vedantic meditation techniques.

Raja Yoga:  In-depth study of Patanjali Yoga Sutras for deeper understanding of how to control and eventually transcend the mind.

Sanskrit:  The alphabet, pronunciation and the writing of sacred mantras and common Yogic vocabulary.

Anatomy and Physiology:  Functioning of the nervous and the endocrine systems in relation to the practice of Yoga.

Karma Yoga and Bhakti Yoga:  Inner attitudes of selfless service, the nine modes of Bhakti as a means for transforming emotions into love and devotion. 


Qualifications for Admission

The course is open for Yoga teachers who have graduated from the Sivananda Yoga Teachers Training Course or the Integral Yoga Teachers Training Course.

      6:00am         Satsang* or Silent Walk
      8:00am         Hatha Yoga and Pranayama Class (all levels)
      9:00am         Anatomy and Physiology Class
    10:00am         Brunch
    11:00am         Karma Yoga (selfless service)
    12:00pm         Raja Yoga or Sanskrit Lectures
      2:00pm         Main Lecture (Vedanta, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga)
      4:00pm         Advanced Asana and Pranayama Class
      6:00pm         Dinner
      8:00pm         Satsang
    10:00pm         Lights out

* satsang - meditation, chanting / kirtan and philosophy lecture.

Attendance at all activities is mandatory. Changes in the program may occur from time to time. 

Each Friday is a day off. Students are required to attend morning pranayama, morning and evening satsangs as well as to complete their one-hour of karma yoga. The rest of the day is free for their own personal study and activities.


What to Bring

Swimsuit for our Russian wood-burning sauna
TTC uniforms or plain yellow tops and white yoga pants
Yoga mat, meditation shawl, prayer beads

You may also wish to purchase items from our onsite Yoga Boutique, pariticipate in day-off field trips or visit our Well Being Center, all of course, contain additional fees outside of tuition.


Required Text Books

The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga by Swami Vishnudevananda
Meditation and Mantras with Swami Vishnudevananda's commentary.

Textbooks available at the ashram boutique or at any Sivananda Yoga Center around the world. You will recieve your training manual upon arrival.


Extended Stay Options

Students should plan to arrive at least one day prior to the beginning of the course and depart at least one day after its completion. There will be no extra charge for those two nights. Students are encouraged to arrive even earlier and stay as long as they wish after the course. For those extra days students will pay the regular accommodation rates of the ashram. As a special offering to ATTC students, you are invited to join us in one of our Residential Programs before or after the course, deepening your experience and understanding of Yoga and Yoga teaching.
