In 1968 our founder, Swami Vishnudevananda, was the first Yogi in the West to create a Yoga Teachers' Training Course (TTC). Designed with the vision to establish a world of peace, he educated each person on how to obtain the inner peace within. He knew by doing this, it would have a strong, positive impact on the world. The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers have honored his vision by preserving the very system he established, some 50 years earlier.
A leader in educating people about the classical Yoga lifestyle, the Sivananda TTC has trained more than 30,000 individuals to date.
Swamiji designed the TTC to closely resemble India's ancient Gurukula System, in which the student's daily life was itself a practical immersion of Yoga teachings. It is this approach that the month-long structure mimics, offering you a peek into Yoga's power.
Swami Vishnudevananda developed a curriculum based on the integration of all aspects of Yoga and Vedanta from knowledge directly handed down by his Guru, the modern day saint and sage, Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh India. Vedanta philosophy teaches the essential unity of all beings, while Yoga offers practical methods for attaining consciousness and experiential wisdoms of that unity.
By the end of the course, the beginner and advanced student alike, will possess a solid foundation for teaching classical Hatha Yoga, cultivate an established personal practice, experience an increase of self-discipline, gain a deeper understanding of Yoga philosophy and its application to everyday life while harmonizing body, mind and spirit.
The course is a registered with the Yoga Alliance at a 200-hour level. It is highly encouraged for previous TTC graduates to participate more than once; refreshing, renewing and enhancing your understanding of Yoga's ancient philosophy.
