Abhyasavairagyabhyan tannirodhah (Yoga Sutra of Patanjali Chapter 1, Verse 12) Constant abhyasa, (constant practice) and vairagya (dispassion/letting go), leads to calming of the mind. As Swami Sivananda says, “Abhyasa or practice is the effort to secure steadiness of the modifications of the mind.” Vairagya, dispassion, is the ability to let go of our sensory pleasures and expectations for the attainment of Moksha. In this talk, begin to understand how these two go hand in hand in the pursuit of Self-Realization and how to apply this in your daily life.

Annapurna is a dedicated practitioner and teacher who has committed her life to bestowing the teachings and benefits of yoga to all who seek a life based on health, truth, peace and bliss. She was first trained in Thailand where she was initiated into her spiritual name, Annapurna, translating as “the goddess of nourishment”. From then she served as a Karma Yogi in the Meenakshi, Gudur, Kerala and Canada Sivananda ashrams where she taught Hatha Yoga, Meditation, and Vedanta. As her spiritual name implies she strives to nourish the body, mind and spirit of each student by sharing her wisdom of the traditional Hatha Yoga teachings along with Vedanta, Bhakti and selfless service to all who wish to connect deeply as a spiritual being. Her experience has included working with Beginner, Intermediate and Advance students, youth, seniors, injury rehabilitation and novice Vedantins worldwide including Sri Lanka, Thailand, Honduras, Orlando, Washington D.C., and New York. In humble service to Swami Sivananda’s main teaching “Serve. Love. Give. Purify. Meditate. Realize.” she sees herself as a simple student in the hands of the divine with the whole world as her teacher and with the goal to bring forth the light residing in the hearts of all.
