ASHRAM TEMPORARY CLOSURE
Monday, March 16 - Monday, August 31
Om Namo Narayanaya
Blessed Self, dear friends and students,
As you may know the Sivananda Centers in New York City and Chicago, as well as the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch have closed to the public since March 11 to help stem the spread of the covid19 virus. The staff at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch continue our practice, supporting each other and continuing with our mission of disseminating the Yoga teachings and supporting the Sivananda Yoga community sharing our satsangs and practice online. Respecting social distancing, we have started live satsangs, study groups and asana classes using the growing social media software of Facebook Live and Zoom. We are currently a collective of 12 yoga practitioners at the Yoga Ranch. To limit the danger of the group catching or spreading the virus, we have established the following protocols:
Stocking up on food and medical supplies to limit the need to leave the ashram during the pandemic.
The ashram has closed to all outside guests, staff, workers, students etc. We have set off separate quarters where any new staff or residents must pass a mandatory 14-day quarantine before entering our main building. Our local county has recently begun a Phase I opening, and we are hoping to acquire testing kits to reduce the quarantine period.
We have handwashing and sanitizing procedures for staff as well as communally used facilities like bathrooms, office, kitchen, etc.
We have instigated the same social distancing disciplines as outside the ashram of small gatherings, keeping the six-foot physical rule whenever we come for meals, satsang, or class.
A registered nurse is advising us on all matters connected to the virus, and devising a proposed plan for slowly opening the ashram.
We are looking into opening up slowly to long-term residents following the above protocol and hopefully a small, socially distanced Yoga Teachers Training Course for August.
With all of these protocols, we feel that we can safely share our yoga practice with those of you who cannot physically join us. Our group practice are not public gatherings any more than a family coming together who live in the same house. Thank God, we are all in excellent health and are doing all the yoga practice we can to maintain our health. The Ashram is a perfect environment to practice a healthy yoga lifestyle. We hope to continue to share our practice with you, as well as to bring to you via Zoom, teachers and musicians outside of the ashram for as long as this crisis continues and we cannot meet in person. We are navigating a new world, trying our best to continue our practice and service while respecting new rules. We are learning every day. We hope that you will continue on this journey with us.
We know the shutdown has challenged everyone financially. As some people have been hurt more than others have, we are making most of our offerings free of charge. However, if you have the means, please donate what you can to help support our full-time staff during these challenging times.
If you would like to join our small ashram community, we are accepting applications for residency and temporary staff positions. We are asking new residents to make a minimum karma yoga program donation and to make a commitment to stay at the ashram for a minimum of two months. Please note that until we receive proper testing kits, new residents will need to quarantine for 14 days.
Om and Prem,
