A “Food Forest” is a low-maintenance, sustainable, plant-based agroforestry system based on woodland ecosystems. It incorporates fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, and perennial vegetables, which have yields directly useful to humans and beyond. Join us to learn how food forests can be managed, and how the concept can be applied to plant and human ecosystems to create a positive footprint on the earth.

This weekend we will dive deeply into two permaculture principles: Catch and store energy; and use the edge and value the marginal. This workshop is for those with some or no practice in growing their own fruits or vegetables, its great for the forest, backyard or window farmer. Please bring rain jackets, outdoor boots and clothes for cold and rainy spring weather, as well as comfy clothes for yoga and Satsang.

The course tuition (listed above) is for the whole program. Your accommodation rate includes meals, Satsangs, and Hatha yoga classes which are offered daily.

Jared Williams & Lala Montoya

Based out of Saugerties NY, they are developing a network of communities and individuals who work in partnership towards resilience and abundance. Lala, with a background in fine arts and education, brings creativity and a DIY attitude to the table. Jared, with experience in design and love for architecture, provides a more technical direction. Together, they travel, learn and teach permaculture. Currently they are developing projects in Kenya, Colombia, and Upstate New York which include; seed/food revival education, community building and creating permaculture demonstration sites.

Satsang & Yoga Classes

Satsang consists of a 30-minute silent meditation, followed by 30 minutes of spiritual chanting (kirtan), and finishes with 30 minutes of spiritual lecture.
Daily attendance at both Satsangs and Hatha Yoga Classes is encouraged for your health and well-being and to maintain the proper rhythm and atmosphere of the ashram community.
